Social Events 2026

Dear RBL Swiss Branch Members,

The RBL Committee hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying the pleasant summer weather. We are delighted to share with you some upcoming social events for your calendars to satisfy member requests to do more of these types of activities.

  • Wednesday evening, 26 August 2026 at 18:30 hrs – RBL Summer Social

An informal summer dinner will be held at Restaurant Creux de Genthod, on their beautiful terrace, overlooking Lake Geneva. Apero from 18:30 hrs with dinner commencing at 19:30 hrs

Please note that there will be a Committee meeting from 17:30 hrs before the evening activities. Any member wishing to table a topic for discussion should submit to the Chairman in advance for inclusion in the agenda.

  1. Dinner is a set menu at CHF 57.00 per person (excluding drinks):

  • Seasonal green salad
  • Perch fillets, cooked to perfection, served with French fries, tartare sauce and lemon butter
  • Chocolate mousse, or the pastry chef's éclair of the day

  1. Drinks package is available for CHF 23.00 per person, if desired.

  2. Donation to help cover the costs of organising the event:

  • CHF 15.00 per member Royal British Legion Swiss Branch 
  • CHF 20.00 per non-member (i.e. partners and guests)

Dress Code: Summer smart. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements.

Partners and guests are very welcome. We hope many of you will join us for what promises to be an enjoyable summer evening. We also welcome members of the RAFA, BRA, and BSCC and any other friends which you may wish to bring to this event. 

To register: please complete the registration form below - sending it to the Chairman referencing “Summer Social 2026”.  All bills are to be settled at the end of the evening.

  • Thursday evening, 29 October 2026 at 18:15 hrs – AGM and Guest Speaker Annual Dinner

RBL Swiss Branch AGM 2026 and annual dinner with guest speaker will be held at the at Hotel Warwick, on Rue de Lausanne 14 in Geneva.

Members are invited to attend the AGM at 18:15 hrs prior to the Apero and Dinner. Any member wishing to join the committee should provide a short resume no later than 30 September 2026. Other topics should also be sent to the Chairman in advance of the AGM.

Dinner will include 3-courses, plus drinks - wine, water, tea & coffee for CHF 110 p.p. (Swiss branch members) and CHF 130 p.p. (non-members).

Dress Code: Business smart

19:00 hrs             Welcome drink followed by dinner with guest speaker - members & guests

Our guest speaker at the dinner will be Colonel Geoffrey Cardozo CBE, who will speak on the topic “Post-Falklands War: People not Bodies - the Identification of Argentine War Dead”.

Colonel Geoffrey Cardozo CBE is a former British Army Colonel, known for helping to identify the human remains of Argentine soldiers in the Argentine Military Cemetery in the Falkland Islands. Cardozo is a specialist in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Spanish speaker. He arrived in the Falklands after the war to provide support and to check on the morale of service personnel but as military engineers cleared the island of landmines, bodies were usually found. 

Cardozo was then, officially charged with the task of locating and burying the remains of Argentine soldiers dispersed in the island. He created a cemetery (on land donated by Brooke Hardcastle, a local farmer). To cope with this new task, he returned to London and assembled a crew of twelve people who would assist him with this Falklands project. The tasks started in January 1983 and are ongoing.

Since 2004, due to the generosity of a wealthy Argentine benefactor, Eduardo Eurnekian, the team has been able to restore the cemetery. In 2012, the ICRC also got involved approaching families of Argentine soldiers, who had been buried in the Falkland Islands in unnamed graves, to see whether there would be support for a DNA identification in order to allow their final resting places to be properly marked.

Colonel Cardozo is the son of Frederick Cardozo, a British Soldier and SOE veteran. In November 2020, he was nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize along with Julio Aro, the Argentine Falklands War veteran who joined efforts with Cardozo in the DNA identification of remains in the Cemetery. He lives in France.

  • Saturday, 7 November 2026 – Church of Scotland St Andrews Fair

The Church of Scotland in Geneva will hold their annual St Andrews Fair (daytime) & Ceilidh (evening) at Le Salle de Grand-Saconnex, Rte de Colovrex 20, 1218 Le Grand-Saconnex. The timings are: 

  • the Fair will be open between 09:30 and 15:00 hrs offering stalls to purchase gifts, crafts, toys, face-painting, bric-a-brac, food, drinks and much more
  • the Ceilidh event (CHF 35) will start at 19:00hrs and finish at 22:00hrs (food and drinks will be available to purchase) – remember to wear comfortable shoes for dancing :-) 

 

  • Social Events in 2027

Any ideas for social events in 2027 - please kindly propose these to the Vice-Chairman for discussion with the Committee. Members are encouraged to organise social events for all.

 

Previous events held in 2026:

  • Saturday lunchtime, 20 June 2026 at 12:00 hrs – RAFA Swiss Branch

The Swiss Branch of the RAF Association was formed on 18 June 1951. To mark this 75th anniversary, they will be holding a celebratory lunch at the Hotel Restaurant du Port, Yvoire, France with aperitifs from midday. The suggested route is to travel by boat across the lake from Nyon to Yvoire.
